Step Two

Choose a Domain Name  and Install Wordpress

One of the first things you must do having picked your web host, is to pick your domain name. It is generally better to pick a domain related to the topic of the site such as easygolftips.com . The reason being that search engines will favor a keyword relating to your niche, in the title. If you are having trouble getting the name you want, try adding a short prefix or suffix to what you want. For example, buildawebsite was not available. I added now to make buildawebsitenow.net . A bit long, but my keywords “build a website”are right where I want them.

Next you will want to install Wordpress. Note that if you want to install Wordpress to your root directory, you may have to tell that to your host so they may make a small change to make that possible. Just tell an operator on your support chat that you want to install Wordpress to your root folder. Next, lets install Wordpress. Take a look at this part of Cpanel.

cpanelYour host may have a slightly different version of this but, here is a section of your cpanel. This one has a seperate button for Wordpress, but typically you would have to choose Fantastico to install Wordpress. Fantastico is a great script installer. So in this case you can install Wordpress two ways, by either clicking the Wordpress icon, or the Fantastico icon. Fantastico will give you a list of programs you can install. Just choose Wordpress and you are on your way. I suggest picking the install to your root for now as Wordpress will be your permanent website.

During the Wordpress installation, you will have to pick a logon and password.

You will now log on to your website by typing (www.yourdomainname/wp-admin)

in your browser. This will bring you to your Wordpress dashboard, where after you log in, you can create your website.

Congratulations and you should now go the “Getting around Wordpress” page on our top menu bar.
